Help Us Match Our Funding Goal for Shandaken’s Summer Camp Lunch Program
(all donations are tax-deductible)
CAHP is pleased to announce a partnership with the Phoenicia Food Pantry UMC to provide free lunch for the participants of Shandaken’s Summer Recreation Program, along with light breakfast snacks so that every child can start the day off right.
Throughout years of her dedicated service to Shandaken’s Summer Recreation Program, director Manuela (Manny) Jean Pierre recognized the need to provide food in response to a growing number of campers who showed up on empty stomachs and without bagged lunch. This partnership between CAHP and the Pantry was created to help address this critical need for food access during these difficult times of high inflation, as well as to support the hardworking recreation team by alleviating an added logistical burden.
Thanks to funding from The Hudson Valley Foundation for Youth Health, our current budget is $3,000. But we need more to provide nutritious food to our kids. Can you help us match this grant to reach our goal of $6,000?
A portion of the program budget will also be devoted to providing fresh groceries to families who may not be able to attend the Pantry’s regular service hours (Thursdays, 10am-12pm).
Want to donate by check? Please make your check out to Catskills Alliance for Housing & Preservation and mail it to:
Ulster Savings Bank
PO Box 217
Phoenicia, NY 12464
Or you can drop it off at the Phoenicia branch of the bank!
We need a few community-minded volunteers to help procure ingredients, assemble lunches, and deliver them to camp. If you are available to help us in July or early August, please fill out the brief form HERE.
About Phoenicia Food Pantry
Founded in the 1980s, The Phoenicia Food Pantry at the United Methodist Church is Shandaken's local resource for those experiencing food insecurity. Run entirely on volunteer power, local donors, and regional grants, the pantry services up to 50 households per week and growing. Families, seniors, and individuals are welcome to shop with dignity to find fresh produce, frozen meats, sourdough breads, canned foods, pantry staples, cleaning supplies, body care items, and pet food. The Pantry's guiding principle is based on the premise that people need to eat 365 days a year. The Pantry is open at 29 Church Street on Thursdays between 10am – 12pm, and by appointment. No one is refused service.
